The 73rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment Undertakes a Projection Exercise

Monday, June 11, 2012

Number: 1705

The 73rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment has taken advantage of its privileged situation, in the proximity of the port in Cartagena (Murcia), the city’s Naval Base and the Air Base in San Javier, in order to undertake an exercise based on a maritime projection scenario and deployment of an Anti-aircraft Defence Unit in the area of operations.  The exercise was carried out on 6th and 7th June.

In collaboration with the Navy, the 73rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment embarked up to two Anti-aircraft Defence Units (based on NASAMS and Aspide missile systems) on the ship ‘Martín Posadillo’. Once disembarked, the Anti-aircraft Defence Units were transferred to the 73rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment training camp and firing range, where they undertook a mock tactical deployment to simulate the anti-aircraft defence of a vital site in support of projection operations, taking advantage of General Air Academy training flights.  .

The exercise has not only permitted training units in embarkment operations, but also in revising and updating operational procedures.  The fine joint training conditions offered in the area (in a few kilometres, Army, Navy and Air Force units are concentrated) has made this type of exercises possible with very high performance, low cost and without leaving home.
