Tribute to Sergeant Major Casanova in Berriozar

Army Sergeant Major Francisco Casanova, assassinated by the ETA terrorist organisation 12 years ago, on 9th August received a deeply felt tribute in Berriozar (Navarra) on the occasion of the anniversary of his death, which was attended by relatives, residents of the locality, political representatives from Navarra, as well as those from National Security Forces and Corps, along with members of 66th Mountain Light Infantry Regiment ‘América’, to which he had belonged.
 

Among the ceremonies held in his memory in this locality in Navarra outstanding was the floral offering at the ‘Liberty Gate’ monument, which commemorates Mr. Francisco Casanova and all victims of terrorism.  An hour earlier a mass had been celebrated in memory of the deceased. 
 

At the tribute present were Sergeant Major Casanova’s widow, Ms. Rosalía Saiz, her two children, Javier and Laura, as well as his father.  At all times they were accompanied by the commander of 66th Mountain Light Infantry Regiment ‘América’ and interim military commander of Navarra, Coronel Félix E. García, the Government delegate to Navarra, Ms. Carmen Alba, the deputy vice-president and spokesperson for the regional government, Mr. Juan Luis Sánchez de Muniáin, the president of the regional Parliament of Navarra, Mr. Alberto Catalán, the mayor of Pamplona, Mr. Enrique Maya, the former president of the Navarra regional Government, Mr. Miguel Sanz, as well as other representatives of Navarra politics and institutions.
