Mistral 2012 Seminar on the Artillery base in Fuencarral

The Artillery base in Fuencarral (Madrid) has been the venue for the Mistral 2012 Seminar in which, on 20th and 21st November, the Mistral has been the subject of debate while information and experiences have been exchanged among representatives from all the Spanish Army Mistral Batteries.

The 71st/2nd Anti-aircraft Artillery Group has been in charge of organising and co-ordinating the seminar, in which units have participated from the Heavy Forces Brigades -10th Mechanised Infantry Brigade ‘Guzmán el Bueno’, 11th Mechanised Infantry Brigade ‘Extremadura’, 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade ‘Guadarrama’ and 2nd Cavalry Brigade ‘Castillejos"-, the Light Forces Brigades -7th Light Infantry Brigade ‘Galicia’, Legion Brigade and Paratroops Brigade-,  the Ceuta and Melilla General Commands –the 6th and the 7th Anti-aircraft Artillery Groups-, the Canary Island Command -93rd Field Artillery Regiment and 94th Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment-, as well as observers from the Artillery Academy.

On the first day of the seminar, works undertaken throughout the year and those initiated during the last meeting were presented.  They have dealt with maintenance problems of the Mistral system and the Light Semi-automatic Antiaircraft Artillery Operations Centre, along with updating the works that are being undertaken at the Maintenance Department.

On the second day, the process of integrated anti-aircraft Defence planning within combat unit planning was dealt with, as well as the particular operating rules of the different units regarding real time anti-aircraft combat.

The commander of the Anti-aircraft Artillery Command, Brigadier General Juan V. Cuesta, has been in charge of closing this year’s seminar.
