Thursday, May 14, 2015

Number: 4235

The 3rd Mountain Infantry Battalion “Pirineos”, of the 64th Mountain Hunters Regiment, has carried out an exercise at the Training Area Against Improvised Explosive Devices (CIED) at Igriés (Huesca) from 4th to 8th May, as part of their training programme for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

During that period, the crews have followed motorised training in an IED environment with the vehicles LMV “Lince” and RG-31, allocated to the above-mentioned area of operations. They have also carried out target practice and the security tasks that they will be required to undertake in their future deployment at the Herat base.

Specifically, the unit practised the reaction of a convoy to IED attacks, ambushes and complex attacks; base access control (simulation of access to the Herat base with personnel and vehicles registries and reaction to threats); combat shooting and precision shooting over a distance of 200 metres; staking out a landing area for helicopters; and first aid in combat.
