Training for civilian affairs at ‘‘Alijares’’

Friday, May 29, 2015

Number: 4278

The planning of Civilian-Military Cooperation (CMC) activities in a scenario similar to that in Lebanon served the members of the 1st Civilian Affairs Battalion (including those who will be deployed in that mission in November) to increase their level of preparedness.

These activities were part of the training exercise that the unit carried out at the “Alijares” exercise area and shooting range in Toledo from 18 to 22 May.

The exercise was divided into two phases: A first phase of combat training, during which the soldiers practised tasks such as driving, rifle and gun shooting (both individually and as part of a team), orienteering, counter-IED tactics, NBC defence and combat techniques in built-up areas. And a second phase which consisted of a 24-hour exercise in which the different units had to plan CMC activities to respond to a tactical situation that was posed to them. The activities incorporated incidents based mainly on the Lebanese scenario.
