Defence minister visits the Spanish soldiers in Lebanon

The minister of Defence, Pedro Morenés, visited on 24 November the Spanish contingent stationed at the base “Miguel de Cervantes” at Marjayoun (Lebanon), which is taking part in the UN mission in the Land of the Cedars.

Upon his arrival at the base, the minister was welcomed by the force commander, General Luciano Portolano, and the chief of UNIFIL Sector East, Brigadier Jesús Martín Cabrero. After receiving official honours, he met with members of the contingent..

In a short speech, Morenés stressed that the men and women at Marjayoun base are an example of what Spain should be like. He also indicated that Southern Lebanon lives in peace thanks to the commitment of Spain and its Armed Forces. Finally, the minister paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in this mission, the last one being Lance Corporal Soria.
