The 94th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment deployed its Anti-Aircraft Defence Unit in the areas of Sardina del Norte and Los Giles and at the training field and shooting range La Isleta, in the island of Gran Canaria, on 20 and 21 April. The aim was to carry out a live exercise or LIVEX and undergo assessment.

The live fire exercise involved anti-aircraft artillery and included the participation of the 6th Manoeuvre Helicopter Battalion and Air Combat Command aircraft – they were taking part in exercise Silver Week, organised by the Canary Islands air force –, as well as the Mistral battery of the 93rd Field Artillery Regiment and the telecom services of the 16th Signal Company from the 16th Brigade “Canarias” HQ Battalion.

Activities were gradually incremented to a situation of anti-aircraft warfare with live ammunition. Simultaneously, the Anti-Aircraft Defence Unit was assessed by personnel from Canary Islands HQ and from its own Regiment.

These assessment activities are aimed at certifying all the elements of the Anti-Aircraft Defence Unit according to its specific Availability Plan. This particular exercise was the last in the certification process scheduled for the first half of the year for the 94th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group, 1st of the Regiment, which is now ready to go on to the immediate response phase.
