The Spanish military contingent in Strasbourg, commanded by General Lieutenant Ramírez –Eurocorp’s current commander−, has celebrated Columbus Day (October 12th) with a moving pledging of allegiance to the Flag of Spain for Spanish civilians living in the French city. It is the first time in history that the Spanish Army organizes abroad this type of ceremony.

A total of 38 Spanish citizens, living in Strasbourg, swore allegiance to the Spanish Flag at the ‘Lizé’ quartering. Following, several medals were given to the military personnel creditors of such recognition including a French Army NCO. To end, the Company of Honors paid homage to those who gave their lives for Spain and, right after, it paraded before the Authorities.

Once the ceremony finished, Lieutenant General Ramírez, in front of the guests, conducted a video-conference with the Eurocorps’ Spanish personnel currently deployed in the Central African Republic in an EU training mission framework.
