The Spanish Army attended the 15th Meeting of the LR Spike Missile Users' Club in Israel from the 14th to the 18th of May, during which the 1st International LR Spike Missile Equipment Competition was held, both organised by the Israeli Armed Forces and the contractor Rafael, the manufacturer of the missiles.

The Spanish delegation for the meeting consisted of four representatives of the Army's Logistics Support Command while three members of the 6th "Almogávares" Brigade and one of the 54th "Regulares de Ceuta" competed in the 1st Spike Challenge.

The Spanish team competed against six other participating nations, in the vicinity of the Israeli Infantry Academy, overcoming all the effectiveness tests and obtaining a meritorious third place. The Dutch team was qualified first and the Belgian team was the second. The awards ceremony was followed by a real fire exercise, in which the host Armed Forces and the top two ranked Armed Forces launched four 100% effective LR Spike missiles on the target.

During these days, the 19 delegations visited the facilities of the Rafael factory in the north the country (near Haifa). They were presented with the company's history, current products, new and improved versions of the LR2 and ER2 Spike and their corresponding new iCLU launchers, as well as other new developments. The meeting also visited the Ramon Base of the Israeli Air Force and the Bislamach Infantry Academy, where they had the opportunity to use various combat simulators from different weapon systems.
