The Spanish team from the ‘Galicia’ Brigade win silver in the ‘Cambrian Patrol’ competition

The team from the Campaign Artillery Group from the ‘Galicia’ VII Brigade – made up of 8 members – won the silver medal in the ‘Cambrian Patrol’ competition, which took place in Wales from the 14th to the 16th of October.

In total, 143 patrols from 34 countries faced a test which examined the combatants’ basic military procedures and in which they had 48 hours to run between 60 and 70 km through the Cambrian Mountains, carrying a weight of 45 kilos.

  • Checking equipment
  • Receiving orders and digital sandbox presentation, briefing the patrol
  • Order to activate an observation post above an enemy position
  • CBRN attack using a chemical agent
  • Reception in the Meeting Zone
  • Crossing the river
  • Treatment of captured personnel
  • Crossing a mine field, first aid and medical evacuation, combined with the management of means of communication
  • Acquisition of artillery targets and shot correction

  • Assault/attack on enemy position
  • Debriefing (an explanation to the jury of how the exercise went)

The competition required a great deal of strength, both physical and mental, which the team representing Spain proved that they have and which earned them their excellent ranking. The ‘Cambrian Patrol’ is considered to be one of the world’s most important military events, where values such as self-sacrifice, leadership, teamwork, discipline, strength or bravery, amongst others, are evaluated.
