Experiencias en el rodaje de 'Zona Hostil'

«We are caught up in the brotherhood spirit the military personnel has; the main lesson is to see that they are all on the same boat. They are people ready to risk their lives for some ideals and for their Motherland. The Spanish Army is made up of very well prepared and trained people who just love what they do.» These are the words of Antonio Garrido, who plays Major Barbancho, Chinook pilot and Senior Staff Chief of the Helicopters´Battalion (5th BHELTRA), however, he plays the character under the name: Major Ledesma. This is a tribute to NCO Ramón Ledesma who passed away in Albania from a heart attack in 1999, on the eve of his return home. He was an affable man; loved by everyone. His death was a great shock and is everyday present.

According to sargeant Monge, a Chinnook mechanic based in 5th BHELTRA, the complexities shown in the movie are an accurate image of the real events. Of course there are fiction parts that were introduced in the movie to make it more attractive.

She continues saying that having gone back to all those memories has brought many sensations of that mission since it was a day... how to say it... very intense and complicated; and even though some years have gone by, it was hard to go over those memories.  Once accepted the first moments, the situation is lived in a more normal fashion and even with joy because we are narrating an important story. The NCO Atienza (rescue co-pilot) says that it has been one of the most challeging  operations in technical and emotional terms.

There are some movie licenses like the Legion taking the role of the US Engineers Unit that protected the helicopter at night time; the Capitan Doctor Roldán (Varela in de movie played by Ariadna Gil and the crashed helicopter pilot played by Roberto Álamo) were recued at dawn and did not take part in the Superpuma rescue; the helicopters given support were Italian Mangusta...

The NCO Casado, 2nd Chief of the load and shooting Unit has worked as an actor in the movie. The filmmaker talks about how all the actors proposed this military NCO for a role in the movie because they met him at the instruction phase and they thought his acting would give them confidence. The NCO remembers the behavor of the actors during the training and he gives them a B+ ; he says that one they got the gist of it, each of them was like another soldier.  To the inevitable question of 'how many takes'; the NCO says that he made it right the first time except in 2 occasions.

The rescue carried out that to the professionalism, team work and team spirit that portrays this Unit. The pilots´expertise was crucial but also the mechanics crew who help to the success of the loading. The protection and observation depended on the shooters and the loading personnel did a load prep that is not in any manual.
