The 64th Mountain Troops Infantry Regiment ‘Galicia’ rendered a tribute to soldier Rubén Rangel Vizuete in the first anniversary of his death during a service on the 2nd of August, 2016 in Canfranc Estación (Huesca).

Presided over by Unit Chief, Colonel Fernando Maté, the ceremony recalled the unfortunate accident, consequence of a landslide during which work was being realized during climbing training in the Canteras Bajas area, which cost the life of soldier Rangel and also injuring five others with various lesions.

One year ago, in the Parade Field in “La Victoria” Barracks (Jaca), where they installed the funeral chapel, the then Minister of Defense Pedro Morenés, placed a posthumous Military Merit Cross, with yellow ribbon; together with the flag that covered the casket and the appropriate Mountain Beret was presented by Colonel Maté to the mother of the fallen soldier.

Soldier Rangel was placed in the Armed Forces in October of 2013 and “Galicia” was his first destination.  In 2015 he was deployed to Afghanistan and had received a NATO medal for his participation in said operation.

Following a tribute ceremony for Soldier Antonio Güeto Ramos, on the 24th of July, in the square that carries his name, the General Commander of Ceuta, General Javier Sancho Sifre, offered a breakfast for the relatives of the soldier, deceased in the line of duty in 1982 in this autonomous city.  General Sanchez presented a gift on the behalf of the General Command of Ceuta to the mother of the soldier, Andrea Ramos who was accompanied by two of her children.  Soldier Güeto lost his life while he was assisting in the extinction of a fire which occurred 35 years ago in the area of “El Renegado” ammunition depot.
